WalthersProto 85' ACF Dome-Lounge

As UP transformed its Streamliners into Domeliners in 1955, 15 new Dome-Lounge Observations were delivered to bring up the rear of the flagship streamliners. Within a year however this proved to be a problem. The cars quickly lost their unique ends and were rebuilt as Dome-Lounges. Named for the famed UP-SP-CNW Streamliner, the prototype has its original windows and lighting for use at the end of the train.

'Walter Dean'
Delivered as part of the 1955 upgrade to Domeliners, UP 9005 remained on the roster until 1971. After serving on the Auto Train from 1972 to 1981, the car went through several private owners before returning home in late 1989. Through 1990, the car carried the name "Harriman." In 1990, it was renamed in honor of Walter Dean, who served as an attendant on UP's business car fleet from 1971 until his death in 1999.

'Harriman'
Built new in 1955 by American Car & Foundry, UP 9004 was set aside for special assignments in 1974. In 1987, the car was named "Harriman" in honor of Edward Harriman and his sons Averell and Roland, who all served as Directors of the company. From 1989 to 1990, the car was named "Sun Valley."

'The City of Los Angeles'
The City of Los Angeles was an oasis of quiet comfort and its dome-lounge cars offered a cozy retreat where passengers could relax over a favorite beverage, a game of cards, or just watch the passing scenery. The #9000-9014 series cars were delivered in 1955 as lot #4096, plan #76-1938, and were rebuilt for mid-train service in late 1956, resulting in slight changes to the interior and the addition of an exterior diaphragm.
