Rio Grande Modeling & Historical Society Magazine: The Prospector - 4th Quarter 2022

Volume 21, Number 4 contains three articles we’ve featured in The Prospector.

The first article, OS Soldier Summit by Mike McLaughlin is great story about an evening of trains on Soldier summit set sometime before 1964

The second article is by Richard Severance is a photo essay he captured in July, 1963 traveling from California to Texas via Soldier Summit. He was able to photograph the California Zephyr and a quartet of GP30s on Soldier Summit. the essay also includes multiple days he spent in the 1980s on Soldier Summit on several different occasions photographing the Rio Grande’s parade of manifests and coal trains.

Last article also by Richard Severance is a photo essay covers the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad’s narrow gauge line and “Fast Freights’ eastbound from Durango, Colorado, to Gato, Colorado in 1962.
