TrainLife Sponsored Movie: Trackside - the Story of Railroad Photographers

July 21, 2017 13 Comments

We are Railfans. So we get it. When our friend Josh approached us about the possibility of funding a film that he had an idea for we were all for it. He wanted to make a video that helped those that don't understand the hobby of railfanning and model railroading get a better understanding of it.
From ERA Films:

"This is the story of a group of friends united by a common hobby: railroad photography. This documentary explores why these people take interest in trains and how they express themselves through photography, cinematography, and scale models, and highlights the strengths and problems within the hobby of railfanning."

Thank you to ERA Films for the many hours of work that went into this beautifully made documentary.

Enjoy!

Great video! Well done to the guys who put it together, and a thank you to Trainlife for sponsoring it. Photography and video were superbly stitched together with great commentary by the group. I particularly like the idea of so many young folks being interested in railfanning and model railroading. And, yes, some of us old guys can even handle social media, so keep reaching out to us!! Thanks again.

Josh did a great job on this film. Some of us who are “older” rail fans do keep up on social media. Was great to hear about the hobby from a younger point of view.

Did a old mans heart good to see young men still enjoying watching trains. I got hooked watching trains in the Philly area. That awoked the gypsy in me. So I drove busses around America for 37 years. One trip I had a group of CR welders and they called me a FRN. The entire meant rail nut. The f I’ll leave up to your imagination. Keep watching till your my age

Great video… As a 55 year old Railfan I am happy to see younger men and women enjoying the railfan hobby. I started when I was 18 and I am still out along the rails and enjoy it as much today as when I started.

Do you ever take shots of yard work or are yards locked up?

Kudos to all involved. I really enjoyed it and if I was closer to Utah this old boy would love to tag along with the young guys.

I enjoyed the video production immensely, but have one question. What is the app that the one young gentleman was using on his phone to track the freight trains
