A little bit about EMD

In our opinion EMD made some of the coolest locomotives out there. Here's a 10 second history on the Electro-Motive Division...

From the GM Heritage Center Website:

"The roots of the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) go back to 1920, when General Motors purchased the Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation and the Winton Engine Corporation. With GM’s revolutionary two-stroke diesel engine revolutionizing the locomotive, marine, and off-road engine business in the 1920s, EMD was formed in 1941 and remained a separate business unit within GM until it was divested in the year 2005."
